Ludus Lab - Enabling Village Bilingual Docent Guide (English & Mandarin Speaking)

Ludus Lab aims to be the authority in accessible experiences and accessibility training in the tourism industry.

Position Overview

We are seeking docents to showcase Enabling Village as the first inclusive community space and how design integrates biodiversity and people inclusiveness within the space.

We envision the individual to be able to weave in his/her personal experience and perform storytelling of Enabling Village, and to showcase assistive technology and infocomm technology that can enable PWDs to lead more independent lives. The docent can also facilitate tour participants to experience the challenges encountered by PWDs and to better appreciate the universal design principles and technology that helped the PWDs.

This position requires the docent to be able to speak both English and Mandarin, to cater to the needs of mandarin speaking guests.

The docent guide will need to undergo Tourism Soft Skills Training (https://luduslab.sg/training-programs/tourism-soft-skills-training/) and Enabling Village content (notes and Observation Session will be provided) before they can be deployed.

Each tour will have a maximum duration of 2 hours, with an expected 1 or more tour runs to be conducted per week.

A minimum commitment of 3 tours/month will be required for this position.

Docents may also be deployed at other frontline tourism roles (eg. Sentosa Wheelventure https://luduslab.sg/tours/sentosa-wheel-venture-accessible-sentosa-island-tour/, Events and Conference Ambassadors or Coordinator etc) as part of this role.

There is no permanent office for reporting, and all frontline tourism related roles will be accessible.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct ground recce of sites.
  • Deliver commentaries to enhance tour experience through local knowledge independently.
  • Explain tour sights to tour groups using visuals and storytelling.
  • Lead tour groups according to planned itineraries.
  • Group and tour management.
  • Perform research on sites.
  • Administer tour review and review feedback from tour participants.
  • Tailor delivery of tour content and tour journeys to tour group demographics.

Required Skills & Knowledge

  • Fluent in both English and Mandarin, with strong public speaking abilities in both languages
  • Experience in storytelling and public presentation
  • Understanding of universal design principles and accessibility features
  • Knowledge of assistive technology and infocomm technology for PWDs
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to manage diverse groups of visitors independently
  • Experience in handling feedback and continuous improvement
  • Positive aptitude and attitude

Communication & Reporting

  • Regular check-ins with supervisor
  • Monthly performance reviews

Success Metrics

  • Accuracy of tour information delivered
  • Tour participant satisfaction ratings (minimum 4/5)
  • Quality of audience interaction and Q&A sessions
  • Effectiveness in handling diverse group demographic
  • Consistency in delivering complete tour content
  • Ability to conduct tours in both English and Mandarin effectively
  • Adherence to scheduled tour timings
